Climate Action Plan
St Bartholomew's CE Primary School
At St Bartholomew's CE Primary School, we recognise our responsibility to care for God's creation and to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and values they need to become environmentally responsible citizens. Our Climate Action Plan sets out our commitment to reducing our environmental impact, enhancing biodiversity, promoting sustainable practices and developing a culture where sustainability is understood, valued and embedded throughout our school community. Inspired by our Christian vision and values, we encourage our pupils to act as careful stewards of the world around them.
Central to this work is our Eco Council, a dedicated group of pupils who help lead and promote environmental initiatives across the school. Their voice is important in identifying priorities, monitoring progress and inspiring others through assemblies, campaigns and practical projects. By empowering children to take an active role in environmental action, we nurture leadership, responsibility and a lifelong commitment to caring for the planet.
Our Climate Action Plan brings together practical actions in key areas including:
Through engaging curriculum experiences, outdoor learning opportunities and whole-school initiatives, we aim to deepen pupils' understanding of environmental issues and empower them to make informed choices. Climate and sustainability education is woven throughout our curriculum, enabling children to understand the impact of human activity on the environment and the positive difference they can make.
As a Church of England school, we believe that caring for the environment is an expression of our faith and a way of showing love and respect for God's world. We encourage our pupils to live out these values through practical action, thoughtful decision-making and service to others.
Together, with pupils, staff, governors, parents, our parish church and the wider community, we are building a greener, healthier and more sustainable future. We believe that every action, no matter how small, can make a difference. This Climate Action Plan represents our commitment to protecting the environment and inspiring future generations to do the same.
