Our school day begins at 8.45am. The bell rings and children line up and are taken in by their class teacher. The day ends at 3.15pm. Children are collected from outside their classroom. Please do not take a child without the adult in charge being aware.

The school week is 32.5 hours.

“From the first day of term to the last, the small moments in a school day make a real difference to your child. #AttendanceCounts”

If your child is unwell please notify the office by 9am either by phone 01442 822364 or email attendance@stbarts.herts.sch.uk.

All absences including medical appointments should be emailed to: attendance@stbarts.herts.sch.uk.

You will be asked to complete an HCC Application for Leave of absence form. Where possible we ask that routine dental and medical appointments are not made during the school day.

There are recent changes to the law regarding unauthorised absences and penalty notice fines. In line with The Department for Education guidelines we do not expect any holidays to be taken during term time and absences will be recorded as unauthorised unless there are exceptional circumstances which will be considered by the Co Head teachers:

  • Medical appointment
  • sickness
  • attending an interview for a place at another school or visiting a new school prior to relocation
  • attending an approved off-site activity.
  • attending a pupil referral unit.
  • attending an approved P.E./sporting activity
  • taking part in an approved public performance
  • school educational visit
  • educated off site
  • approved examinations/tests (e.g. music exams)
  • immediate family (parent or grandparent) trauma (e.g. a bereavement or funeral)
  • wedding of an immediate family member (1 day maximum)
  • it is a day of religious observance (as decided by the religious body to which the pupil’s parent belongs

For requests that are considered unauthorised you may be required to attend a meeting with a Head teacher.

Where your child needs medication to be administered at school a form must be completed and handed into the school office.

School Uniform Policy

Our School Uniform is-

Grey skirt / trousers / shorts
A bottle-green cardigan or sweatshirt with school logo or plain.
Green and white checked or striped summer dress. Summer uniform is optional.

Children may wear the school fleece/coat outdoors or you may provide your own coat.

Low heeled sensible black shoes or plimsolls for indoors.

Sensible shoes or trainers for outdoor play.

Children in Class 1 also need Wellington Boots

P.E. Kit

Children will wear their P.E. kit to school on their P.E. days:

Class 1 - Wednesday

Class 2 - Monday and Wednesday

Class 3 - Thursday and Friday

Class 4 - Thursday and Friday

Children will need a uniform or plain white t-shirt and black shorts. In winter we advise the children to wear plain black tracksuit bottoms and a plain black jumper for outdoor P.E.

All children also need a pair of trainers for activities on the field.

Children in Class 3 will need a costume or trunks (no bikinis), swimming hat and googles for swimming in the Autumn Term.

General

All articles of clothing should be marked clearly with your child's name, including shoes, trainers and Wellington boots.

The only jewellery allowed is a watch (no apple/smart watches please) and small stud earrings. These must be removed for PE.

Second Hand Uniform

We have a great selection of second hand uniform available to purchase through the WSA for a small donation of £2 for logo items and £1 for non logo items. Please contact Elaine Radway on 07715807094 for more details.

Forest School

Forest School takes place outside in all weathers. It’s important the children are dressed appropriately for Forest School so they are protected from the elements, insects and general scrapes.

Please ensure they have:

  • Long sleeved top (T-shirts do not give adequate protection from bugs and scrapes)
  • Jumper (when its colder)
  • Long trousers
  • Water proof coat (warm one in colder weather)
  • Water proof trousers (not just when it’s raining, children will get muddy and need to sit on wet surfaces all year round)
  • Sturdy waterproof pair of boots or wellies (trainers are not suitable; boots are better than wellies especially in the cold)
  • Hat (to protect against sun as well as cold)
  • Spare pair of socks and underwear (just in case they get wet)

In addition:

  • Warm gloves (please supply all year if your child gets cold easy)
  • Thick socks or two thinner pairs

Please use old clothes as they will get dirty!
